Our story
Bread. Opportunity. Community.
‘Bara’ is the Welsh word for bread - a simple, universal food that connects people across cultures. A product so integral to daily life, bread is a worldwide symbol of culture, community and peace.
At Bara, we believe that food is more than something you eat, it’s something you share. That’s why we bake our own bread fresh each day, create thoughtful, delicious menus, and open our space to the people around us.
Who we are
Founded by Cecily Dalladay and Zoë Heimann, Bara is a neighbourhood café rooted in values of care, community, and creativity.
We’re chefs and bread lovers. But we’re also organisers, listeners, and collaborators, working to make our café a place where everyone feels at home, and where good food creates real opportunities.
What we believe in
People First, Always
We pay the London Living Wage as a minimum, and create a supportive, empowering environment for our team.
Quality Without Compromise
We serve sandwiches that are generous, bold and delicious. Ingredients matter, and we pride ourselves on finding the best that we can, and working with suppliers who share our outlook.
Community Commitment
From £1.50 filter coffee, to vouchers distributed at food banks, we believe good food should be accessible. We make our space available to local groups at minimal cost, partner with local food banks to ensure nothing goes to waste, and are building an entry-to-work programme for those that face barriers to entry to employment in London.
Why we do it
Because cafés can do more than sell coffee.
They can open doors, create jobs, feed people well, and hold space for joy, rest and solidarity.
At Bara, we’re building that kind of café - one sandwich, one connection at a time.
